“The love of the dance scene meets the love of rawdarkly atmospheric noise… Gothic sounding guitars duel with the sensory overload of a techno club.” Steve Lamacq, BBC 6Music’
Chalk is the three-piece project of award winning musicians and filmmakers Ross Cullen, Benedict Goddard, and Luke Niblock.
The band formed after they met whilst studying film and realised they shared the same musical vision and ambitions. Inspired by the ferocity and live performance of Dublins Guitar Band scene, and informed by the sweaty hardcore dance scenes of their native Belfast (the breeding ground for acts like electronic duoBICEP), the band are IDLES meets Daniel Avery, Death Gripsmeets Bicep – techno-infused gothic post-punk.
The trio sprung out of the gates live, supporting London’s PVA in for their first ever shows, before selling out dates across the UK, performing on the European Festival circuit and ending the year with a stunning performance at the legendary Rencontres TransMusicalesand a KEXP session, due out in early March 2024. With the release of their debut EP ‘Conditions’, the band interweaves their industrial noise/techno hybrid soundscape and the monochromatic gothic visual landscape they have created for themselves in an evocative and seamless manner.
Chalk have just released their second project with producer Chris Ryan (NewDad, Just Mustard, Enola Gay) via Nice Swan Records (Sports Team, English teacher).
