chiika may not have grown up playing instruments or learning music theory, but she did grow up writing English versions of foreign-language songs and uploading them to YouTube. Lockdown convinced her that even if she wasn’t a ‘proper musician’, nothing could stop her writing words to free beats from the internet. Two EPs, a main stage festival performance, and tens of thousands of streams later, chiika’s music is ever-changing: genre-defying, mixing the East of her Indian heritage with the West of her British upbringing – but always unmistakably her.
chiika has received support from BBC Introducing, BBC Asian Network, and last summer played the Main Stage at Truck Festival, having been selected by Nightshift Magazine to represent Oxford music, as well as the BBC Introducing stage at The Big Feastival.
